On Wednesday 2nd June, BEARS Women's Rugby hosted their annual touch-a-thon at Egham Rugby Club. The aim: Keep a game of touch rugby going for 12 hours to raise money for Right to Play.
At 7.30am a handful of stallions assembled at Egham Rugby Club ready to start playing at 8am. Neither the cold nor the wet grass held the girls back from the task at hand. After half an hour of human towers, wonky RHUL SPORT banners, EXCELLENT raffle prizes and a handy knot lesson from the hooker, the girls were ready to start. At 8am on the dot the girls started the game of touch rugby; tired rugby girls + wet grass = hilarity.
Over the next 12 hours numbers grew as graduates, new students, family, friends, housemates and quite a few girls from RHUL Women's Football came down to join in. The support of an enthusiastic young man, Billy, was also happily received.
As 8pm approached, the remaining stallions stood strong and finished with a burst of energy. After a 12 hour touch-a-thon, a raffle and a highly appreciated BBQ, a very proud rugby team raised almost £300 for Right to Play. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this year's successful touch-a-thon. Special mentions go to our beloved Stacey Rontiris for organising everything in the whole world, The Foresters Arms in Egham for kindly donating all of the BBQ proceeds to Right to Play (we love you, Ray) and Egham Essentials for donating a prize to our raffle. See you next year for another touch-a-thon!
